FED: Union advises flight crew to wear masks, gloves
A union says Qantas flight attendants should wear face masks and gloves if they areconcerned about catching the deadly SARS virus.
The Flight Attendants Association met with Qantas representatives last night to addressmembers' concerns about their personal safety.
In information posted on its website following the meeting the union reminds crew tomaintain high standards of personal hygiene and to wash hands with soap and water.
FAAA says masks have been placed on all international flights and crew should feelmore comfortable to wear them.
It says the wearing of protective gloves during meal services is also permitted.
However, the union has stressed that the risk of contracting SARS onboard an aircraft is low.
It also says passenger screening is occurring at points of departure and arrival atselected airports and that health authorities have introduced new quarantine measure toprevent any infection spreading.
