PERMITTED USES FOR FOUNDRY SAND EXPANDED TO INCLUDE SOIL ADDITIVES

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has proposed expanding use of foundry sand from ferrous and steel foundries to develop new markets that would include use as soil additives and construction materials. "This permit will relieve a financial burden on many foundries and keep the material out of landfills by providing alternative disposal options for a product that has beneficial uses," declared secretary Kathleen McGinty.
